Indulge in traditional Greek gastronomy complemented by a classic brand that offers a bountiful and exotic selection of salts, herbs and spreads
Discovery
The brand offers a bountiful and exotic selection of salts, herbs and spreads since 1994. The eye-catching circular label depicting a traditionally Greek culinary instrument, the pestle and mortar, drew my attention on yet another of my visits to Prekas’s grocery store in Hermoupolis. Syros, which by now as you may have guessed, is one of my favourite gastronomic shopping haunts.
Amvrosia Gourmet was founded by the late Kleon Stylianides and from 2009 is run by his sons Stavros and Aris.
The core philosophy of the brand is to create unique combinations of fine ingredients, offering consumers innovative products and ideas.
Their marinated salt, for instance, combines salt from Messolonghi with the best Mediterranean herbs such as thyme, oregano, basil and mint.
The salt variety is as dazzling as the crisp white flakes of Messolonghi coarse salt, which are the basis for most of the choices. These arrive in generous jars or in practical grindable salt mills which retain the distinctive taste and aroma of the salt. The range encompasses a salt and pepper mix, the salt marinated with Mediterranean herbs, or with lemonato, lemon flavouring from Cyprus, or with smoked essence from Cyprus.
There is an offering of Greek salt mixed with Himalayan pink salt, Hawaiian red salt or black Indian salt, or blue Persian salt. Other products are a rich array of herbs bathed in oil such as basil, spearmint, thyme, oregano, aniseed and estragon. There is also a wide range of dips and spreads available using Greek staples such as olive oil, olive, eggplants, capers and sun dried tomatoes.
The company is ISO certified and apart from its strong Greek commercial presence also energetically exports to Europe, the United States and Australia.

Memory
From 1994 Amvrosia Gourmet begun exhibiting as a food provider for the HO.RE.CA food exhibition in Athens. In 2010 the owners selected some of the products, packaged them in small jars and launched them onto the market. Stavros, after completing his studies in management in Greece and the UK, took over the family business along with his brother Aris.
After participating in many food fairs in Greece and abroad, the brand started growing in popularity.
The family’s creative vision was to develop the most valued of Greek culinary elements and expand the range of flavours and textures which could be extracted from them.
Their range of products is exceptional in the Greek market. They make pâtés from olives, leeks, carrots, spinach and beetroots which flourish in Greek soil. Their sauces encompass chilli, barbeque flavour and well known hummus. Their culinary ingredients feature two different ready made rice mixes for stuffed tomatoes, for instance, as well as garlic, either chopped or preserved in basil or chilli oil. Finally, their sweet selection includes olive jam, raisin and cinnamon preserve and caramelized onion spread.
The flavour combinations are their own creation.

Narration
Amvrosia Gourmet consists of a small team of five employees and the production unit is located in Kolonos, Athens.
The creators’ vision is to spread the renowned Mediterranean diet mantra all over the world.
Stavros considers creating new fusions and flavours the most exciting part of his job. Experimenting in his kitchen and trying to figure out if the new products can stand out commercially is the biggest challenge for him and the whole team.
