ÉSOPHY
Meet the ÉSOPHY creators that share a passion for chocolate and the aromas, flavours and traditions of the Mediterranean.
Discovery
Chocolate had not initially been on the prescribed list of A Magic Cabinet’s contents as the climatic conditions in Greece, ranging from balmy to scorching are hardly congenial to its delivery.
However my inordinate obsession with this particular delicacy led to its inclusion on our site.
Another important factor in this decision was our introduction to its founders who approached us with unbridled enthusiasm for their truly remarkable chocolate products.
ÉSOPHY was founded in 2017 in Kifissia, Athens by Sophia Dendrinou and Evdokia Liakou, specializing in chocolate bars, delicacies and dried nuts covered in chocolate.
Every day, Sophia and Evdokia create fresh chocolates inspired by the scents, tastes, hospitality, culture and traditions of the Mediterranean. All of their recipes aim to evoke memories that stem from the original taste of the ingredients and the high quality of their raw materials.
ÉSOPHY chocolates synergize two seductive worlds: chocolate, beloved by most, and the best raw materials of the Mediterranean. They utilize fresh ingredients without added alcohol, commonly used as an additive.

The two chocolatiers carefully acquire all of their ingredients from local producers in the Mediterranean. The famous pistachio from Aegina, the acclaimed Chios mastic, figs from Kimi, hazelnuts from Italy’s Piemont, fragrant oranges and lemons from Crete, basil, lavender, and mint from the Peloponnese.
In our online shop we sell dark chocolates with mastic and roasted almonds, with olive oil and salt, with coffee and cardamom and with yogurt and blueberries. We have also curated milk chocolates with caramelised and salted almonds and with roasted sesame but also caramelised almonds and pistachios from Aegina dipped in dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and gianduja. The chocolate-covered pistachios have been awarded the international prize Great Taste.
Memory
After working in strategic marketing for some of the largest food and beverage companies, Sophia and Evdokia decided to follow their passion for creation and to make “inspired” chocolates.
They trained in Belgium and founded ÉSOPHY, which reflects their philosophy. Their first products were sampled by friends and acquaintances, from whom ÉSOPHY accepted its first orders. Their excitement grew when their first important client chose ÉSOPHY for their corporate Christmas gifts, the two of them worked day and night to ensure perfection.
Since then, they have been creating chocolates with the same enthusiasm while continuing their training and experimenting with many inspired ideas.
When they created their first chocolate in Belgium, chocolate spilled all over; from their working station, to their new uniforms, even their faces.

Narration
Their shop, located in the heart of Kifissia, possesses an open kitchen where clients have the opportunity to witness the entire production process.
As professional chocolatiers, they believe that chocolate is fascinating, not just in flavor, but also as a concept, since it includes warmth, passion, creativity, pleasure, and love, just like the Mediterranean.
Sophia and Evdokia are thrilled when they see their customers’ eyes glow with contentment. Their great challenge lies in training their customers to recognize what real chocolate is, its benefits, and how someone it can be savoured without guilt.

Right now their development is focused on a wider range of recipes with unique fruit, nuts, and herbs, as always dipped in chocolate.
The Aztecs crushed cocoa beans for the preparation of “Choclatl” a beverage considered to be good for digestion and a stimulant, one of the most powerful panaceas of that era.
The first chocolate bar was produced in 1674 in London, at the traditional shop “Coffee Mill”.
ÉSOPHY, with its slim bars and elegant black and brightly coloured wrapping, is putting Greece on the chocolate map.
