Founded in 2018 by Alexandros Balderanos and Anastasia Papatsiflikioti, it offers an exquisite honey on a par with international standards. The packaging is striking with beautiful graphics and colours.
The beehives are located mostly in Limnos and in Chalkidiki, which both have abundant herbs and wildflowers to attract the bees.
Melimnos values and respects nature. The honey they produce is free of unnecessary processing and chemical ingredients and this way maintains its natural flavour, aroma and nutritional values.
Memory
Alexandros remembers the very first time he tasted honey and vividly recalls the amber colour and the unique aroma of thyme. He grew up in the island of Limnos, an island renowned since antiquity for its gastronomical and cultural heritage. His father Kyriakos was a beekeeper and Alexandros learned about beekeeping from an early age. This is how he became familiar with the nature of the unique social structure of bees.
Alexandros left the bucolic surroundings of Limnos to study accounting and finance at the Technological Educational Institute of Central Macedonia. There he met his wife Anastasia. In 2013 he finished his studies and they decided to settle in Nea Moudania in northern Greece which was Anastasia’s birthplace.
The idea for the establishment of Melimnos was born around that time. The Greek economic crisis, which started in 2008, was continuing and Alexandros began to consider his beekeeping legacy.
He started to think of ways to highlight his family’s product and give people all around the world the opportunity to try it. This reflection led to the creation of Melimnos in 2017.
Motivated by his father’s passion for beekeeping, Alexandros introduced elements of innovation to his family product, like the creative packaging. Later Melimnos included more family beekeepers to produce for them ensuring though that, like his own family, they had a long tradition of exceptional honey production.
Narration
Alexandros finds his inspiration for Melimnos in the society of bees. “The most difficult part is to maintain the same enthusiasm and creativity as we had in the beginning. However, the finalized product is the result of the collective work of many people; it shows their perseverance to overcome any obstacles and achieve their goal.”
Melimnos tries to be close to its producers as they want to decrease their energy footprint. For this reason, the company, which employs eight people, is based in Chalkidiki, as many of the beehives are located in the vicinity.
Melimnos values and respects nature. The honey they produce is free of unnecessary processing and chemical ingredients and this way maintains its natural flavour, aroma and nutritional values.
After the extraction process takes place, the honey passes through quality analysis with very strict criteria after which the final product is packaged.
