Dimitris Kalergis
Meet Dimitris Kalergis and his uniquely stylish, but practical, products, all handmade and environmentally friendly.
Discovery
Every January, the innovative exposition Greek Brand New debuts some flagship local design brands and showcases other with an existing foothold in the market. Dimitris Kalergis is such a company, offering a contemporary take on desk top staples as card holders and as well as fabric lap top envelopes.
The card holder is handcrafted from wood and cradles the cards snugly. Dimitris Kalergis the founder likes the idea of only two business cards sitting on an office desk!
We were delighted to receive him in our offices with samples of all his works.
Dimitris is an architect and designer of beautiful, but simultaneously practical, home decor items.
As a very environmentally aware person, as well as a lover of culture, he is inspired by nature and civilizations alike.
He makes everything in Greece, mainly in the region of Thessaly, using environmentally friendly techniques and in some cases, 100% natural ingredients.

Part of the profits from the sale of his unusual rhinoceros shaped hangers are donated to support the work of the WWF.
Every one of his creations is unique and he never copies something that has been done in the past.
For Dimitris, the commercial aspect of his business is important, without it being his main goal. He is interested in making his customers environmentally aware, sharing his philosophy with them and building a sense of trust.
Dimitris designs each object and then gives his co-operating carpenters and other craftspeople the necessary guidelines so they can bring it to life.
The tablet sleeves that we have chosen for our site have multiple pockets as Dimitris wanted them to be practical for those who are always on the go.
All the objects Dimitris designs have an underlying symbolism and create memory associations.

Memory
Dimitris studied Architecture in England and did his master’s and doctorate studies in Greece.
He decided to graduate to home decor when he was in the process of designing some houses in Pelion where his customers asked him to create some bespoke pieces.

Narration
For the last fifteen years Dimitris has had his own architectural practice in Volos.
His office is untidy and charming all at the same time as it is the place where his ideas are born: some will materialise, some not, some are almost complete and some in the early stages.
For Dimitris the inception of an idea is crucial, as every creation is special.
What he finds most exciting is creating something no one has ever thought of before or something he was told was impossible to make.
