Mary Katrantzou

The Greek fashion designer shares the inspiration elements behind her most treasured Magic Cabinet items

A Photograph

A photo with my mum, which reminds me of all the things she’s taught me and how supportive she’s always been of my choices. The bond between mother and daughter is unique and this photo reminds me of it wherever I find myself.

My Atelier Swarovski x Mary Katrantzou earrings

It really is special, getting to discover the world of jewellery through the eyes of Atelier Swarovski. It made me want to go beyond my wildest dreams. I love the whole collection but I don’t leave home without my Nostalgia Double Drop earrings!

My Paint by Numbers silk scarf, especially designed for A Magic Cabinet

In collaboration with Eugenia Chandris and A Magic Cabinet, we created an exclusive scarf. It’s based on our SS18 collection, nostalgia and te liveliest childhood memories.

The Swiss Textiles Αward

In 2010, roughly a year after I launched my brand, I was honoured with the Swiss Textiles Αward. As it came at the beginning of my career and despite it being the first of many that were to follow, this award is very special to me.

My computer

The thing I cannot live without, my computer! My work is based on digital design and that all involves a computer. I spend many hours in front of a screen.

Vangelis’ Chariots of Fire

I was lucky enough to meet Vangelis in person and work with him on my anniversary show. It was a dream come true. I admired him from a young age and his music has been a constant companion. Listening to Chariots of Fire inspires me and helps me create.

Spetses’ memories

My magic cabinet is full of memories of the carefree childhood summers I spent in Spetses with my family and friends. They are deeply etched on my soul and follow me whatever I’m doing.

Stoned hand painted stones

It’s so interesting to see how Stoned creates high end decorative objects from simple, hand painted Greek beach pebbles. They take me back to Greek summers and my younger self, as I would always collect pebbles that looked like small gems.
