Discovery

Costas Lazaridis is one the most renowned winemakers in Greece. He founded his company in 1992 in the small town of Adriani in the Northern Greek region of Drama.

The brand began exclusively as a wine producer and then expanded into the distillation of spirits in 1992 and in the year 2004, into the production of prime balsamic vinegars. I made their discovering during one of my visits to the innovative food store Olicatessen in Thessaloniki, a marvellous emporium crammed with Greek gastronomic delights.

For A Magic Cabinet we have selected Lazaridis’s Botanico I and II and the Botanico Red Seal. Even a few drops of these signature condiments elevate any dish to a gastronomic high.

The Domaine is one of the largest wineries in Greece and exceeds over two million square metres.

The company employs a consultant from Modena, Italy to ensure product authenticity. The company also buys its barrels from Italy as the maturation of the vinegar in the barrel is of paramount importance.

In 2004, wanting to expand products extracted from grapes, they launched their first balsamic vinegars. The company employs a consultant from Modena, Italy to ensure product authenticity. Memory

Costas studied economics in Germany and he was involved with his family’s considerable marble business. In 1979 he returned to Drama and in Xiropotamos, near his house on the slopes of mount Falakro, laid out the first modern linear vineyard in Drama. In 1986, Costas built what was the first modern winery in Northern Greece to vinify grapes from his substantial vineyards. His first wine tasters were friends and family.

The founder carefully planned for the vineyard to be situated at several altitudes in order to protect them from bad weather and to achieve a perfect microclimate.

He has twin sons who now assist him in his wine company. George is an oenologist with a post graduate degree from Montpellier in France. Gerasimos’s field is management and he holds a MBA from City University in London.

Narration

Their 15.000 square metres winery is situated in Adriani, while their vineyards are situated all over Drama in between the mountains of Falakro, Paggaio and Menoikio. There is also the company’s wine museum located in the region of North Attica. The company has 130 staff members.
